getting started

Hi all

Been in the US for 2 weeks & a rather busy time. Yes Bret, about time we started
doing something a little more concrete!

Ben has mentioned we need some kind of mission statement to let people know what
we are about. Here's a start

Apache++ was initiated to demonstrate that C++ is a viable (even preferred)
alternative to C to implement a robust, correct, reliable etc etc *portable* web
server based on Apache

Other things:

- I'm pretty keen on using NSPR as a thread abstraction
- requiring egcs would make life easier for us all - allows us to use STL which
I'm keen on
- not keen on ACE myself ... a bit heavyweight for me! And a bit of a learning
curve.
