gcache failure

I've just brought up apache+ssl (version 1.2.6), with SSLeay-0.8.1 under
Red Hat Linux 4.2. It works fine for a while, and then stops accepting
connections, generating the error message:

  httpsd: gcacheclient.c:37: OpenServer: Assertion `0' failed

Any suggestions?
