I've been lurking on this list for some time as eventually I'll need to
install *something* SSL. This whole mod_ssl/apache_ssl mess has done
nothing but confuse me.
Ralf
Please re-read your posts. You claim that there isn't competition.
But to a newbie you send a message that Apache-SSL is "old school"
and mod_ssl is "new school". That sounds like competition to me.
I do like the CVS thing. Not that I contribute, I just like that
dev model. Oh, I will say thanks for the time you spent on mod_ssl
even though I don't use either product yet people should alway receive
praise for free software dev. If mod_ssl does prove easier to
use and stable then I'm all for it. (I'm lazy ;-)
Ben
First, thank you for the Apache-SSL. It is obviously the framework
mod_ssl is built upon. But, you seem to me to be responding to Ralfs
claims not stating your own. Have you looked over mod_ssl? If so,
do you see any differences between mod_ssl and apache-ssl. Is the code
really cleaned up, reorginized, easier to config, etc. Or would
a person be trading a mature product (Apache-SSL) for something that
was less tested and had no real benifit.
I'm really not trying to start a huge flame war I just really need a clear
picture as to the differences between the packages. These exchanges of
"doesn't do this/yes it does" really make it hard for me to understand
what really going on here.
Please. I'm not trying to insult/offend anyone and if something I said
above sounds that way it wasn't intended as such. The whole Apache w/ SSL
topic has just become alot more complex and my time to invest in
reasearching it hasn't increased.
Thanks.
