It sounds like you haven't tweaked the SSL paths in the configuration
file... Assuming you're trying to compile apache_1.3.1+ssl_1.20, you can
now do (from README.SSL):
6. (Optional) Run the FixPatch script to try to fix up the SSLeay
paths in the
patch.
BEFORE applying the patch.
